“A very good way to get acquainted with the art of sewing!â€, says Anna – and with the sisters’ simple template for bunting, everyone can take part.
A string of home-made bunting is a decorative detail for cosy moments in the garden and festive gatherings outdoors as well as indoors. The simple construction of this decoration means that it is easy to make – whether you are a beginner or experienced in the art of sewing. Make your string of bunting from fabric in your favourite colours and patterns. You can find patchwork fabric in your local Søstrene Grene store, but if you have fabric remains from previous DIY projects, it will be natural to use them for this purpose.
Let the string of bunting be a colourful detail when decorating for parties and festive gatherings indoors.
Hang the string of bunting on your terrace, balcony or in the garden, and enjoy the sight of it on cosy spring and summer days.
Use the template and a pencil to draw triangles on the fabric. Fold the fabric, making it lay double, and place the triangle template along the folded hem as shown in the video. Cut out with a pair of scissors.
Sew the triangles together and let two endings be open so there is room for turning the fabric. If you are a beginner, it may be a good idea to pin the two triangles together before sewing them together with the sewing machine.
After you have sewn the triangles together, you can use a long, rounded object – for example a crochet hook or the end of a pencil – to push out the point of each triangle so the shape becomes clear.
Attach a string to each flag, and your string of bunting is now ready to be hung up.
If you want the flags to be larger or smaller than the sisters’ template, remember to leave a centimeter for the seam distance all around the triangle.
