Baked biscuit place cards

“The table setting sets the tone for a magical night,” as the sisters say. Do like Anna does, and beautify the table setting for New Year’s Eve with unique place cards for your dear guests.

Mix a biscuit dough, and then, cut out the biscuits in your favourite shapes and motifs with cookie cutters. Bake the biscuits in the oven and let them cool down.

Mix 200 g of icing sugar and one pasteurised egg white in a bowl. It is important that the frosting is stiff and sticky, so it does not blur. This is the frosting that will be used to decorate the edges of the cookies and for drawing and writing.

Split the frosting into several bowls and add your desired food colour pastes. The coloured frostings need to be thinned for the best colouring result. Simply add a few drops of water to thin out the frostings.

Now, make icing bags of baking paper. Cut one piece of baking paper into four parts and roll the parts into four paper cones. Roll them tightly to avoid any holes at the bottom. Use tape to hold the paper cone together.

Split the frosting into each icing bag. You can fold the opening of the icing cone to keep the frosting from slipping out. Tip: You can also test your frosting’s texture on a piece of baking paper. The thick frosting should be able to hold its shape when being piped in a thin jet. Test the thin frostings by piping a small ball of frosting onto the baking paper. If the ball has smoothened out to a nice round circle after 12 seconds, the frosting has the correct texture and thickness.

You are now ready to decorate your biscuit place cards. Cut a small hole in the bottom of the icing cone and pipe the icing onto the biscuit. Use the thick frosting to draw, write, and decorate the edge of your biscuits, and the thinner frosting to colour. Optionally, you can decorate with sprinkles.

Once the frosting on the biscuits is dry, you can use the thick frosting to write the name of your guests on the biscuit place cards.
