Organising your desk is a little more fun when the holders have charm, Clara believes. "Here is a sweet solution for storing writing utensils for the dear little ones," she says. "And for the young at heart," Anna adds with a twinkle in her eye.
Download and print the template and cut out the leather accordingly.
Use a rotary puncher to make holes for the bear's eyes in the paper template for the bear's head. Now transfer the circles for the eyes from the template to the leather with a pen, and then make holes in the leather using the rotary puncher.
Place the template for the bear's head on top of the leather again and use an awl to poke holes for the four dots.
Fold the large piece of leather to make the sides meet, as shown in the video. Secure the sides with small textile clips.
Use a tape measure to evenly draw small dots along the edge of the bottom of the large piece of leather, approximately 0.5 cm from the edge – this is where your stitches will be.
Use an awl to poke holes through the leather on top of your marked dots.
With a 70 cm piece of embroidery thread, sew the large piece of leather together, as shown in the video. Attach a thick needle to each end of the thread and pull one needle through the first hole at the bottom of the leather, so that you end up with a needle on each side. Now, you can sew through the remaining holes from both the back and the front with the respective needles.
Continue sewing in this manner until you have reached the end and secure the stitches with two tight knots on the back.
Place the leather bear head onto the large piece of leather at the top approximately 2 cm from the edge.
Poke through the four small holes through the leather behind the bear head.
Sew the two pieces of leather together with a cross through the four holes, so that the bear and the pocket are now attached.
Pull a small piece of metal wire through the cross on the backside of the bear as shown in the video. Bend the ends of the wire together, so that these now form a hook for hanging the bear onto a wall or somewhere else.
Your bear-shaped pencil holder is now ready to store all sorts of writing utensils.
