Crocheted drum ornament 13. November 2018

This pattern is an intermediate-level project. Cotton yarn (no. 7) · Filling (no. 18) · Decor yarn (no. 9) plus a crochet hook in size 2 mm and needles or safety pins.

ch: Chain stitch htr: Half treble stitch ss: Slip stitch dc: Double crochet stitch

Top and bottom of the drum: Start with 4 chain stitches (ch), close as a circle with 1 slip stitch (ss). Row 1: Use half treble stitch (htr), increase in each stitch to 8 stitches. Row 2: Increase in each stitch to 16 htr. Row 3: Increase in each stitch to 32 htr. Row 4: Increase in every third stitch until you have 40 htr stitches. Finish the row with 1 double crochet stitch (dc) and 1 ss. Start over again with the same process, so you end up with two identical circles. Cylindrical body of drum: Start with 40 (ch), close as a circle with 1 slip stitch (ss). Row 1 and 2 (red yarn): Use htr stitches. Row 3 -7 (light blue): Change yarn to light blue and use htr stitches. Row 8 and 9: Change to red yard and use htr stitches. Finish the last row with 1 dc and 1 ss. Use decoration yarn to make the straps on the sides of the drum. Start by marking where to sew. Make four markings along the top red stripe (use pins or safety pins) spaced approximately 3 cm apart. Now, make four markings along the bottom red stripe, but placing them in-between the markings in the top stripe. Finally, make a zigzag pattern by sewing from one marking across to the next along the length of the drum. Weave in the ends. Use decoration yarn to attach the body of the drum to the top and bottom, you want to use the decor yarn. Place the first circle against one end of the cylinder and fasten these two pieces by crocheting dc stitches all the way around. Weave in the ends. Place the second circle against the other end of the cylinder. Crochet dc stitches, stopping halfway around, so you can stuff the drum with filling. Complete the round and weave in the threads.
