"A flower, a sprig of holly, maybe a small Christmas tree…" Anna whispers to herself while she embroiders small motifs. She loves the quirky expression of the small handsewn Christmas candles.
Using a pencil, mark a rectangle of 8 x 11 cm. Additionally, mark 1 cm all the way around within the rectangle. Fasten the part of the fabric with the rectangle in an embroidery frame.
Embroid lovely little patterns of your own choice within the inner rectangle.
Remove the fabric from the embroidery frame and cut out the rectangle. Now it is time to make the flame: Cut 10 cm of ribbon, and cut off the fringe on one of the sides. Fold the ribbon in the middle, and sew it together with embroidery thread, so it looks like the lit flame of a candle. Add the same embroidery thread as a small handle at the top of the flame.
Fold the fabric in the middle, and sew the piece together at the longer side. At the same time, add the candle wick at the top of the candle, while that end of the candle is also closed with a stitching. Fill the candle with polyester padding.
Now close the bottom of the candle with a stitch and, if you want, you can cut the top of the flame drop-shaped, so that it looks even more like a small flame.
