Homemade tulle skirt with pompoms
In joyful play, there are no limits to children's imagination. "However, the right costume can indeed help it along the way," Anna smiles, having created an enchanting tulle skirt with pompoms using needle and thread. "A fairytale character? A circus performer? What do you dream of being?" she asks her nieces and nephew, whose eyes are full of dreams.
Start by measuring the child's waist and multiply the waist circumference by approximately 2.5 to 3. This length should constitute the length of the tulle, ensuring the skirt has suitable volume. In the video, the sisters used a fabric length of 150 cm for a waist circumference of 50 cm.
Now cut the tulle to a length of the waist circumference times 2.5-3 (in the sisters' case, 150 cm). Leave the width of the tulle at approximately 50 cm.
First, sew the ends together to create a circle of tulle.
Fold the tulle lengthwise, so the 50 cm width is halved - that is the length of the skirt. Sew along the edge, so the tulle forms a tube, but refrain from sewing the last 10 cm together.
Now fill the tube with pompoms where you have not yet sewn, and finally close the tube by sewing the last section together.
Next, fold down about 2 cm at the seam of the tube edge and sew a casing. However, refrain from sewing the casing all the way around the skirt; instead, secure and release the skirt from the sewing machine when you have about 5 cm remaining.
Now cut an elastic cord to achieve a length equal to the child's waist circumference plus approximately 10 cm. Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic cord, and thread it through the casing of the skirt.
Tie the two ends of the elastic cord together, and try it on the child if necessary before you sew the casing completely to conceal the knot of the elastic.
Now your tulle skirt is ready to be used. Let the fun begin!
