“Personalise this year’s Christmas decorations with homemade mushrooms,†recommends Anna who likes to decorate with mushrooms in many sizes, colours, and patterns.
Print the templates or make your own. The toadstool and the stem should be separate templates.
Pin the templates onto your desired patchwork fabric and cut it out. You will need 2 pieces of fabric for each template.
Place the two pieces of fabric with the back facing outwards together and sew them together with a seam allowance of 1 cm. Let the middle piece of the toadstool stay open. This is marked with lines in the template.
Repeat the same process with the stem leaving the top open.
Now turn the stem and the toadstool, so the front of the fabric faces out, and fill them with DIY stuffing.
Handsew the stem and the toadstool together. Be aware of turning the seam allowances of the openings inside.
Sew a ribbon onto the top of the toadstool, so the mushroom is ready to be hung. Tie a bow around the ribbon and sew pearls onto the toadstool for a charming expression. Tip: For a neat expression, cut small hacks into the seam allowances at the corners of the mushrooms after sewing on the machine and before turning the toadstool and the stem.
