Wrapping paper kite with crepe paper ruffles 02. June 2022

youtubeIdPortrait
Create beautiful marble effects on paper

Fly in style

"Higher, faster, higher," the nephew and nieces yell, while Clara gives flying the lovely kite a go. Anna has designed and created the kite herself of - amongst other materials - sticks from the garden, dashing crepe paper and a little bit of skill.

Material List

Ruler
Scissors
Double sided adhesive tape
Gift wrapping paper
Jute twine
Finger paint
Patterned fabric
Marker
Knife
Glue gun
Crepe paper
Bamboo sticks or other thin/light sticks from the garden or forest

Skref 1

You will ned a stick of 70 cm and one of 47 cm. Make a notch at the end of all the sticks with a little knife. These will keep the string in place. Make sure that all the notches are facing the same direction.

Skref 2

Make a mark at 23 cm on the longest stick and right at the middle of the shorter stick. Place the two sticks on top of each other where they are marked. The long stick should be horizontal and the short stick should be diagonal, so they make up a cross. Glue the sticks together at the middle with a glue gun.

Skref 3

Secure the sticks further by tying jute twine around the point where the sticks are glued together. Fasten it and cut off any excess string.

Skref 4

Lead the jute twine all the way around the notches and finish at the bottom of the kite where you should leave a bit of twine after you have tied a knot.

Skref 5

Place the kite skeleton on the back side of the gift wrapping paper. Mark 3 cm from the skeleton all the way around it. Connect these marks with a ruler and draw a line. At every corner, draw a notch from each side which should meet at the middle of the corner.

Skref 6

Cut this out and flip the gift-wrapping paper so the front is up. Here you can draw or paint any pattern you wish to.

Skref 7

Flip the gift wrapping paper again so the front is down. Put double sided adhesive tape along all the edges of the paper.

Skref 8

Place the kite skeleton in the middle and attatch the paper by flipping the paper with the double sided adhesive tape around all the twine.

Skref 9

Now, it is time to add a tail for stability. For this, cut 1 m of jute twine and tie this to the twine at the bottom of the kite. Now, cut a random number of fabrics in the measurements 22 x 8,5 cm. Tie these to the twine tail with a knot in the middle so they look like bows and with random space between them on the string.

Skref 10

Cut a long strip of crepe paper and pull it out along one side. Glue the "flat" side along the edge of the back of the kite with a glue gun so the kite gets ruffled edges.

Skref 11

Tie jute twine to where the sticks are gathered at the back of the kite. Now the kite is ready to fly.
