Advent calendar from toilet rolls

Cut out 24 squares of tissue paper. They must be big enough to cover the opening of the toilet rolls.

Apply decoupage glue along the upper edge of a toilet roll, then stretch a piece of tissue paper over the opening so that it adheres to the glue. Continue until you have glued the 24 pieces of tissue paper onto 24 toilet rolls.

Now use a glue gun to glue the sides of the toilet rolls together, so they form a Christmas tree. Arrange them as follows (from bottom to top): 3, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and finally 1 toilet roll at the very top.

Place the toilet rolls on a sturdy piece of cardboard, and draw around them to outline the shape of the Christmas tree.

Now, cut out the shape on the cardboard.

Distribute sweet treats or small surprises in each of the toilet rolls, and finally close the calendar by gluing the Christmas tree-shaped piece of cardboard on top with the glue gun.

To decorate your Advent calendar, cut out spruce branches from green felt or cardboard. Cut approximately 12 pieces with the same length as the toilet rolls, and cut points at the bottom of the pieces.

Glue your spruce branches to the side of the Christmas tree made from toilet rolls using the glue gun. Start at the bottom and work your way up until the sides are covered in 'spruce'.

For a neat finishing touch, glue a square piece of felt to the top of the tree to close it off nicely.

Write the numbers 1 to 24 on the tissue paper on the toilet rolls with a marker. Be careful not to pierce the paper.

Now your Advent calendar is ready for the little ones to uncover a new joyful surprise each day in December.
