A gallery wall, walls in beautiful colours and artwork in a variety of designs – find inspiration and much more here
Anna and Clara's ongoing project of renewing their home’s interior décor is a labour of love, a process that, for the sisters, seems to never end. Anna is always busy with a wealth of creative projects for the home’s walls and cosy corners, while Clara ensures that the home is kept in the finest order. "A beautifully decorated home, especially with charming wall decorations, can create a unique sense of joy," Anna believes.
The sisters recommend incorporating the walls into your décor. “This allows you to easily add your personal style to each room of your home,” Anna explains, noting that wall ornaments offer endless design possibilities. “A gallery wall could contain everything from artworks, posters, shelves, cabinets – or something entirely different, even homemade,” she suggests.
“Creativity has no rules,” as Anna often says. “The same applies to decorating the home.” The sisters see possibilities in everything, big and small, and they delight in crafting creative and beautiful ideas when decorating the walls. “You can use anything from yarn to clay,” Anna says. “Your imagination is the only limit.”
Here, the sisters have compiled a wealth of inspiration for crafting your own gallery wall and creatively adorning your home’s walls. “Dive into a creative project or create practical storage solutions with wall decorations,” Clara suggests. With the sisters’ numerous ideas and detailed guides, renewing and decorating the walls in your home becomes a delightful endeavour.
Whether you are fond of vibrant colour plays to bring life and joy to a room, or you prefer a muted and coherent expression, you can always find inspiration at Søstrene Grene.
“You can easily introduce different colours and textures into your wall decorations,” Anna explains. “Mix the colours and create your very own colour play,” she continues. “And if you prefer a more subdued look, you can choose wall decorations in the same colour theme as the rest of your décor,” Clara adds.
Anna has designed a vibrant and creative gallery wall in the living room, where each poster is carefully chosen to create a harmonious play of colours. In Anna’s opinion, a home can never be too colourful. Clara has selected frames for Anna’s many posters to match the colour palette of the rest of the living room’s décor. “This creates a cohesive theme throughout the entire décor,” she explains.
Clara likes to use the walls for practical storage solutions. The sisters' collection of books has been elevated on Clara's new wall shelf. "This way, they are out of the way and away from small curious hands," she says. Likewise, you can hang small cabinets on the walls, which not only can decorate the home but also be practical storage for everyday items.
Painting a wall is a wonderful way to renew the walls of your home. Anna often sees the walls as large, blank canvases, just waiting to be transformed with a bit of colour – and a little imagination.
“Wall paint can significantly change the atmosphere of a room,” Anna explains. She has a fondness for vibrant colours to frame her many creative ideas, while Clara prefers softer pastel colours, which can create a calm and relaxing mood. “You can choose different wall colours for different rooms,” Clara smiles. “This allows you to let each room reflect the feelings you wish to evoke.”
If you wish to create a gallery wall, or if you already have one, you might consider painting the wall behind your artworks a lovely colour. “Painting the wall behind your art and posters can create a beautiful backdrop for your displays,” Anna explains. “With a colour that complements your wall art, you can actually highlight the colours in the motifs on the wall – almost like a large passe-partout,” she smiles.
Add a personal and creative touch to you walls with the sisters’ cosy DIY projects for the home. Anna enjoys letting her and her loved ones’ projects adorn the home’s walls. “They spread joy, beauty, and memories,” she believes.
Here, Anna has compiled a selection of her favourite projects for the home’s empty walls:
“There is something to be found for both beginners and experts,” Anna says. At Søstrene Grene, you can also find all you need for creative projects. Explore the sisters’ vast selection of yarn, paint, craft supplies, and much more.
“Each room is a new opportunity for decorating,” the sisters believe. Here, they have gathered inspiration on how you can adorn the walls in the various rooms of your home.
Clara prefers to let the wall decorations in the sisters' home office be practical tools for the busy moments of the workday. Above the desk, she has hung a decorative notice board with felt balls to gather the small memos and notes. Next to the notice board, there are small, crocheted wall baskets for storing the little items in the office. To keep track of the sisters’ many creative magazines, Clara has made a practical magazine holder out of paper. “Decorative and practical,” Clara notes.
“It’s the small details that make a guest feel welcome,” Anna believes. She has meticulously made a charming, handmade macramé holder. This beautiful holder carries a small guest towel in the sisters’ bathroom. “You can also use it for dish towels in the kitchen,” Clara suggests.
“Adorn your kitchen with elegant and functional shelving,” Clara suggests, believing it to be an excellent method for establishing tranquillity and organisation while adding a splash of colour to the space. Personally, the sisters have selected a beautiful purple cup shelf for their array of vibrant ceramic cups, perfectly organising their collection while displaying the many colours.
The sisters enjoy making the living room the focal point for socialising as well as for peaceful and cosy moments. “Let the decorations in the living room reflect your personal taste,” Anna suggests. “Then you are sure to find joy and relaxation in the room,” Clara adds. Feel free to adorn the walls with hand-painted artworks, which can evoke memories and bring beauty. “If you need to open up the room, you can easily create a sense of more space with lovely wall mirrors,” Anna advises.
Consider adding playful and whimsical elements to the children's room walls. Anna and Clara, in consultation with the dear little ones, have chosen to decorate their nephew and nieces’ children's room with fine clay wall decorations, fun papier-mâché masks, and cosy dream catchers. “It is a lovely idea to involve your little ones in these creative projects,” Anna smiles.
Additionally, consider enhancing your outdoor spaces with charming wall decorations. Clara likes to put up cosy light chains on the balcony walls, so the sisters can enjoy the balcony in the evening hours as well. “Also feel free to adorn the walls with beautiful climbing plants or a homemade mobile with stones and branches,” Anna suggests.
Let the decoration of your home be an opportunity for creativity and renewal. Each room can become entirely your own with creative and practical wall decorations. “Inspiration can be found anywhere,” Anna says with a smile. If you need a helping hand, you can explore the sisters’ wonderful world filled with inspiration and a wealth of exciting projects with thorough guides. “Let creativity blossom,” Anna smiles.
