WHO ARE WE?

The tale of Søstrene Grene starts in 1973 in Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city, when the wife and husband team of Inger Grene and Knud Cresten Vaupell Olsen opened a store which turned out to be one of a kind.

With a history in fashion and ballet, and a love of classical music, the couple set out to create a store concept that artfully combined music, beautiful product displays, and storytelling. The ambition was to offer a small break from everyday life and delve into a moment of hygge.

Today, the company is owned and run by the second generation of the Grene family, the brothers Mikkel and Cresten Grene, and has grown to count more than 300 stores across 17 European countries and online shops in 16 markets.
