Artistic papier mâché flower
Create personality and wonder in your home with papier mâché, and craft artistic flowers where no two are alike. "Homemade creations can truly create poetry in the home," Clara believes.
Cut the chicken wire into the following sizes: 1 piece at 60 x 60 cm, 1 piece at 30 x 30 cm, and 2 pieces at 15 x 15 cm.
Shape the largest piece of chicken wire into a stem.
Next, fold the medium-sized piece as shown in the video to form a bowl-shaped flower head. Shape one of the small pieces into the same bowl form.
Finally, press the last small piece of chicken wire together to form a small stem.
Now the flower should be assembled, as shown in the video. This is done by interweaving the pieces together between their stitches in the wire.
Now, cover the flower. Tear the newspaper into smaller strips, and moisten them with wallpaper paste using your hands, while wearing gloves, or a brush. Then cover the flower with the wet newspaper until the entire flower is covered. Allow to dry.
When the newspaper is completely dry, paint the flower with acrylic paint mixed with baking soda. "Baking soda adds more texture to the surface," notes Anna, who is drawn to the more rustic expression.
Once the paint is dry, the flower can be displayed in the home – perhaps even with flowers of other colours. "Personality in a vase," Clara remarks.
