Basic recipe for home pickling
Extend the life of your fruit and vegetables by pickling, the sisters suggest. "You can achieve a wealth of flavour variations by using different spices," Clara notes. Follow the sisters' basic recipe for home pickling and be inspired by their suggestions for fruits, vegetables, and spices.
Start by adding vinegar, water, and sugar to a pot. Stir the mixture well while you bring it to a boil, and turn off the heat when the sugar is completely dissolved.
Cut a fruit or vegetable of your choice into smaller pieces or slices and place them in a preservation jar along with your favourite spices. See the sisters' suggestions for vegetables, fruits, and spices under "Ingredients".
Pour the pickling liquid into the preservation jar, screw the lid on firmly and place the jar in the fridge.
The pickled vegetables or fruits are ready to eat the very next day, but they can last for a long time if stored in the refrigerator.
