Baskets in three sizes
The durable nature of the jute twine inspired Clara to crochet these practical baskets, but it was Anna’s idea to add the multicoloured cotton yarn to beautify the baskets with extra colour. Be inspired to crochet the lovely colourful baskets that are both joyful and practical.
BASE To start, make a magic ring using jute twine. Work 6 double crochet (dc) into the ring. Set a stitch marker and move it up each time you reach the end of the round (rd). Rd 1: 2 dc in each st = 12 sts. Rd 2: 1 dc, 2 dc in next st, repeat a total of 6 times = 18 sts. Continue each rd working 2 dc into every 2nd, then every 3rd, then every 4th (and so on...) dc of the remaining sts to increase the number of sts in the rd. The base should remain flat. The increase also forms a faint star pattern.
Small basket: Work 7 rds. Medium basket: Work 9 rds. Large basket: Work 11 rds.
To continue, work 1 dc into each st to form the basket sides.
Work a total of 8 rds in jute twine. Now join in the multicoloured cotton yarn and work with these 2 strands until you run out of jute twine. Switch to 2 strands of plain coloured yarn. Work 6 rds or to desired basket size.
Work a total of 5 rds in jute twine. Now join in the multicoloured cotton yarn and work with these 2 strands until you run out of jute twine. Now join in plain-coloured cotton yarn, e.g. 5 rds. To finish, work with 2 strands of plain-coloured cotton yarn. Work 3 more rds or to desired basket size.
Work a total of 3 rds in jute twine. Now join in the multicoloured cotton yarn. Work 5 rounds with these 2 strands. Cut the jute twine and join in a second strand of plain coloured cotton yarn. Work 4 rds or to desired basket height.
Finishing the basket with cotton yarn produces a soft edge that is easy to fold down. Use leftover yarn and play around with the colours. Weave in ends.
