Bulky papier mâché mirror frame

"With a frame like this it is not just the reflection in the mirror that is unique," Anna says with a smile.

1

For this project, you will need a surface which can be stained with both glue and paint. Measure around the mirror with a distance from the edge of the mirror that equals the thickness you want for the frame. In the video, there is added 4 cm from the edge of the mirror and all the way around it. Mark on your work table where you started measuring from.

2

Using side-cutting pliers, cut a piece of chicken wire in the right size. The length is the number of cm you just measured all the way around the mirror. The width is the desired thickness of the frame times 4. In this case: 4 cm x 4 = 16 cm.

3

Roll the piece of chicken wire to a long tube. Bend the cut ends around the chicken wire to fasten the tube all the way.

4

Shape the chicken wire roll to match the shape of the mirror when it is placed approx. in the middle of the original mirror edge and thus reaches a bit over the mirror itself. Cut the excess chicken wire off with side-cutting pliers.

5

Attach the ends of the frame by bending the cut ends around each other at the joint.

6

Mix 4 dl water with 1 bottle of decoupage glue in a bowl.

7

Cut newspaper sides in four strips.

8

Dip the newspaper strips in the glue mix and attach them around the frame of chicken wire. Make two to four layers.

9

Leave the frame to dry for 24 hours.

10

Paint the frame with acrylic paint in the desired colour and let it dry.

11

Glue the finished frame to the edges of the mirror with a glue gun in the places where frame and mirror touch.
