Colourful dipped candles

Choose two candles of two different colours, and cut or grate them to flakes. Avoid the wicks as these should not go in the mix. Distribute the two colour flakes in individual bowls.

To melt the candle wax flakes, you need two tall jam jars. Fill a pot with water to cover approx. 3/4 of the tall jars when they are put into the pot. Turn on the heat under the pot.

Fill one jam jar 3/4 with one colour candle wax flakes and fill up the rest of the glass with uncoloured candle wax. In the same way, fill the other jam jar with another colour of candle wax flakes and uncoloured candle wax.

Place the glass jars in the hot water. As the wax melts, fill in more wax, until one glass jar is almost full of liquid candle wax and the other glass jar is half full.

Cut the round metal disc off the wick.

Quickly dip the wick in candle wax and let it dry before dipping another layer on quickly. Continue like this until the candle is as thick as you prefer. It is important to let the candle wax dry in between dips and to make the dips fast. Otherwise the candle wax will melt off the wick in the process. As the candle wax slowly disappears from the glass jars, add more wax to them. Let it melt before continuing with the dipping process.

Finally, you can use a spoon to decorate the candle with an abstract pattern of candle wax.

To dry the candle completely off before it can be placed in the candle holder, you can use a clothes peg. Hook the top part of the candle wick vertically in the peg and hang the candle to dry inside the glass jar or a vase, floating in the middle without touching the sides. You can use the same method if you want to take a break while you are making the candle.
