Costume mask with pearls and glitter
At Anna and Clara’s house, the nephew and nieces have a big collection of costumes and masks, so the sisters never know if they might be having lunch with an astronaut, a superhero or perhaps a butterfly fairy.
Decorate the mask with modelling clay with pearl beads in specific areas or patterns. Be aware that the modelling clay cannot stick to surfaces that have been painted with acrylic paint.
Dip both ends of a pipe cleaner in modelling clay with pearl beads and bend the pipe cleaner in the middle. You have now made the butterfly’s antenna.
Leave the mask and pipe cleaner with modelling clay to dry for 24 hours.
Paint the mask with acrylic paint in the colour of your choosing.
When the paint is dry, you can decorate the mask with glitter. Apply craft glue to the areas of the mask where you want to add glitter and sprinkle glitter on it. Gently tap the mask on the table so excess glitter falls off. You can place a piece of paper on the table, so you can easily gather and reuse the excess glitter.
Further decorate the mask with little stars or sequins using craft glue. With a glue gun, you can add bigger rhinestones too.
Glue the antenna onto the back of the mask using the glue gun.
If you wish to paint the mask before applying the modelling clay with pearl beads, you can use water colours. This way, the rough surface of the mask remains intact which is necessary for the modelling clay to stick. Note that water colours result in a more subdued colour than acrylic paint.
