Create floral gel print art
Create beautiful artworks with gel prints and acrylic paint for a personal touch in the home. "They can also be used as charming greeting cards," Anna suggests.
Ensure you have all the materials at hand before you start, as one should work quickly with gel printing. Select three colours of acrylic paint (red, blue, and pink are used here), cut a silhouette of a vase from cardboard, and prepare your materials for creating texture in the artwork, such as a ball of elastic bands.
Spread the first layer of paint evenly on the gel plate with the roller. In the video, Anna has chosen red paint. It is important not to use too much paint, but also not too little. The sisters recommend that you test on scrap paper first to get a sense of the amount you should use.
With the textured material, such as a ball of elastic bands, roll over the paint at the bottom of the plate.
Place a sheet of paper on the gel plate, and press evenly across it until all the paper has come into contact with the paint.
Remove the paper, and place it next to the plate.
Now spread a layer of blue paint on the gel plate, and then place the cardboard vase silhouette at the bottom of the plate on top of the pattern in the red paint.
Place the paper with red paint back onto the surface. "Remember that the painted side should face downwards," Anna reminds. Press evenly over the paper again.
Remove the paper again, and place it to one side. Do not remove the vase silhouette, which is now stuck in the paint on the board.
Now spread a layer of pink paint on the gel plate, and then remove the vase silhouette. Place flowers on the gel plate while the paint is still wet, so it looks like they are emerging from the vase.
Place the paper with the red and blue paint back onto the plate. "Remember that the painted side should face downwards," Anna notes once more. Press evenly on the paper again.
Remove the paper, and allow it to dry. Your piece is now finished and ready to be framed or used as a personalised greeting card.
"Do not forget the clean up," Clara says with a smile. The gel plate is easiest to clean with water and should be wiped off with an old tea towel. Store the clean gel plate in a plastic bag to ensure it is perfectly clean for next time.
