Create your own passepartout frame

Download and print the template. Then, cut out the outer part of the A6 frame from the paper with your precision knife, so you are left with the outline from the A4 template. Save the A6 template for step 5.

Place your A4 sheet on a piece of heavy cardboard of the same size. "If you do not have heavy cardboard available, you can use the sturdy back from a watercolour or writing pad instead," Clara advises. Now, draw the square from the template on the cardboard with a pencil, and then cut it out with a precision knife on your cutting mat.

Next, cut the embroidery fabric so that it is approximately 1-2 centimetres larger than the cardboard all the way around, allowing the fabric to be folded around the cardboard.

Next, apply decoupage glue to the entire front of the cardboard with a brush. Once the fabric is glued to the front of the cardboard, turn it around, and then apply glue around the edges on the back of the cardboard, so the fabric can be folded over, as shown in the video.

Now, take the paper template with the A6-sized frame that you cut out in step 1, and cut out the centre so that you are left with just the frame itself. Place the template inside the hole of your fabric-covered mount, and trace the inside of the frame onto the fabric with a pencil. Then, cut out this innermost square from the fabric.

Cut diagonally into all the corners so that the fabric can be folded up and glued to the back of the cardboard. "This way, your frame will be neat and tidy at the edges," Clara says.

Find your desired image for the frame, and mount it on the back of the passe-partout with double-sided tape. The picture is now ready to grace your home.
