Denim jacket with woven fabric

Find your fabric scraps and tear a total of 15 strips of fabric, each with a width of 1.5 cm and a length of approx. 30 cm. Cut a small notch with scissors in the edge of the fabric and then tear off the individual fabric shreds. You can opt to iron your strips so that they become completely smooth.

Print the template and transfer the lines to a piece of sewing pattern paper, manifold paper or baking paper. Please note that the lines are intentionally slightly offset from each other.

Place your paper with the lines on the back of the denim jacket where you want the woven detail to be placed. Secure the paper in several places using sequin pins.

Use your rotary fabric cutter to cut through both paper and jacket. You should not roll the knife, but simply press it down through the paper and fabric. It is possible to lock the knife so that it cannot roll.

When you have cut all the holes, you can remove the paper. Attach a safety pin to the end of a strip of fabric and pass it through the holes alternating going above and below as in weaving.

Finish the woven detail on the denim jacket by stapling either side of the fabric strip and the jacket using a sewing machine or sewing by hand. Cut away excess fabric. Now, your new summer jacket is ready for use.
