Embroider flowers with satin ribbon
"Give a special flower for a special occasion," Anna smiles. With Clara's help, she has embroidered a lasting flower and added the name and date of a new dear friend of the family. "Ideal as a babyshower gift," Anna thinks.
Begin by mounting the embroidery fabric in the embroidery hoop. Draw a large circle with a pencil, and add another circle inside the large one. See how in the video. Clara reminds you that the fabric you use should not be too tightly woven.
Cut a piece of satin ribbon to a length of approximately 1 metre. At one end, cut the ribbon diagonally to make it easier to thread the needle, and at the other end, tie a knot.
Før nålen igennem den store ring fra bagsiden af stoffet, og lav det første kronblad som vist i videoen. De kan med fordel klippe et lille hul i båndet, der hvor kronbladet skal slutte, så De nemmere kan føre nålen igennem.
Continue in the same manner all the way around the large circle. Repeat the process along the small circle. The petals on the small circle must be long enough to be stitched between the petals on the large circle.
Repeat the process one last time on the innermost bare circle so that this is covered with petals as well. However, this time you should not pull the ribbon all the way through, leaving the petals flat, as the central petals should acquire a bit of fullness. Continue until there is no more space for petals in the centre, and feel free to vary their length, making the petals shorter and shorter towards the centre of the flower.
Finally, create the flower stem by rolling the satin ribbon, then sew the stem onto the fabric in the desired shape. The stem's leaves are made in the same way as the flower petals.
Add extra flourish by painting the centre of the flower and a few leaves with a touch of watercolour paint. You may use embroidery thread to personalise the piece, for example with the name and birth date of a new family member.
