Fabric egg with crochet bow
Anna has gathered her leftover patchwork and cotton yarn and, together with Clara, she has created charming fabric eggs in spring colours to adorn their cosy home. "A simple, creative project with a great decorative impact," as Clara says.
Begin by downloading and printing the template. Cut out the shape so that it is ready for use.
Lay your fabric out with the reverse side up. Use the template to trace two eggs on the reverse side of the fabric. Next, cut out the two egg-shaped pieces of fabric.
Next, cut a piece of satin ribbon to a length of approximately 20 cm.
Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together, as shown in the video. Fold the satin ribbon in half and place the ends of the ribbon between the two pieces of fabric at the top of the egg, so you can hang the egg up later.
Sew along the edge of the egg with approximately 0.5 cm seam allowance. Leave a small opening of about 2 cm on the side of the egg, where the shape is most straight.
Now turn the fabric inside out, as shown in the video. To ensure that the egg maintains its lovely, oval shape when you turn the fabric, you can either trim half of the seam allowance or cut small notches along the edge of the seam allowance. Catch the satin ribbon, possibly with tweezers, and pull it through the egg’s opening.
Fill the Easter egg with batting or wadding. "Not too much, and not too little," Anna chuckles, and Clara adds, "But just right." Once the egg is filled, close it by sewing as close to the fabric edge as possible.
It is now time to crochet a decorative bow. Begin by pulling approximately 1.5 metres of yarn from a ball, and create a loop to place on a 3.5 mm crochet hook. Next, crochet a strip approximately 32 cm in length. See how in the video.
Tie a bow with the crocheted ribbon. Sew a button or bead in the centre of the bow using a needle and thread, and finally, attach it securely to the egg.
The Easter egg is now finished and ready to be hung up. "Hang it on a spring branch in a vase, for example, or let it adorn your window," Anna suggests.
