Flower hat for dressing up
"Children's imagination is something quite special," Anna smiles at the sight of her nieces and nephew, transformed into wizards and fairies in another world. Follow the sisters' example and create a hat shaped like a snowdrop flower for carnivals or dress-up games.
Print and cut out the template. Sketch the template onto felt in your chosen colour, and cut out 5 pieces. "Remember not to cut out the central shape on the template in the felt, but simply transfer it onto the felt with a pencil," Clara reminds, as this central shape is to be painted later.
Tip: If you are uncertain about the final size of the hat, the sisters recommend first cutting the template out in five pieces of paper and taping them together to measure around the child's head. If the hat is too large, the template can easily be trimmed in width before you cut the final petals from the felt.
Thread the needle, and sew the five felt petals together with a blanket stitch, as shown in the video. You may also use a sewing machine if you have one.
Next, cut out three decorative leaves and a small rectangle from felt, as shown in the video. These will be used for the top of the hat. Paint these four pieces of felt if desired, and allow them to dry.
Next, paint the central, outlined shapes on the hat's petals if desired, and allow to dry.
Create the top of the hat by gluing the three decorative leaves together with a glue gun. Attach them with the rectangle, as demonstrated in the video, and finally mount the assembled decorative leaves onto the hat using the glue gun.
Now the flower hat is finished, and the little ones can soon unleash their imagination in creative play. "Or for carnival parties," Anna remarks.
