Hot air balloon of a rice paper lantern
"A child's room should be ideal for play, relaxation, and daydreaming," Anna says. She has carefully hung this hot air balloon in the play room and is already looking forward to seeing the nieces' and nephew's reaction the next time the dear little ones visit.
Find a cylinder shaped item. This could be a small vase, jar, can or similar. It it important that the item's size corresponds the size of the basket that you wish to make.
Cut a piece of crepe paper which corresponds the size of diameter and height of the basket that you wish to make. You can also use regular paper, but crepe paper is easier to shape and work with. Now, cut a circle, which is 0.5-1 cm larger in diameter than the bottom of the cylinder shaped item.
First, glue the band of crepe paper together around the cylinder item. Then, glue the circle onto the bottom of the crepe paper so you now have a basket of crepe paper around the cylinder item. Anna recommends using a glue gun as this is easiest.
Glue the end of the macramé cord onto the middle of the bottom of the crepe paper basket. Now, glue macramé cord around the whole basket.
Sew with jute twine around the top of the basket, so the top looks nice. If you find that the basket is too tall, this is also the time to make a fold while you sew the top edge. Finish with a knot, and glue the remaining twine to the inside of the basket.
Collect the rice paper lantern and paint red stripes along the gatherings on the lantern. Let this dry.
Glue a narrow silk ribbon in downwards arches from stripe to stripe on the lantern. Continue all the way around.
Cut small triangle flags out of paper in the size you want. Glue them onto the silk ribbon all the way around the lantern.
Find more narrow silk ribbon in the desired colours, and thread one end of a large needle. Stick it through the basket and tie your ends to the bottom of the rice paper lantern with bows.
Find a small bouquet of dried flowers and fill the balloon basket with these.
