How to make a gallery wall
"If we hang the tapestry there, the small canvas can hang here…" Anna lightly jumps around to change positions of the many pictures and decorative elements she has layed out on the floor. A gallery wall is on its way in the sisters' home. You can easily make a gallery wall of your own with Anna's clever tricks.
Gather all pictures and other wall decorations that should be part of your gallery wall.
Make a horizontal line of masking tape on the floor in the width of the gallery wall. This marks the middle of the gallery wall. Now, mark top and bottom of the gallery wall as well with masking tape on the floor placed in relation to the middle line.
Now, start placing the elements for the gallery wall in the field you have just marked on the floor to test different compositions. Use the middle line as starting point for placing the images so some are above and some are under the line.
Test multiple compositions until you are satisfied. It can be helpful to arrange the gallery wall from the middle and out.
Take pictures of the various compositions as you go so you can decide on which one you prefer.
When you have landed on a composition, cut out rectangles from gift-wrapping paper in the size of the pictures (including frame).
Measure the distance between the hook on the back of the frame and the outer edges of the frame, and mark the spot with a dot on the wrapping paper. This way, you know where the nail should go. Repeat on all frames.
Now hang all the pieces of gift wrapping paper on the wall to match your chosen composition on the floor.
Hammer nails or screw screws in the wall on the markings on the gift- wrapping paper.
Now, exchange all the pieces of gift-wrapping paper on the wall with the pictures and other wall decorations from the floor. Your gallery wall is now finished. Remember to save the pieces of gift-wrapping paper. They can still be used for wrapping gifts or making creative projects.
