Knitted bag
With a small bag, you will have room for the essentials on your summer outings. "You can easily knit your own," Anna suggests.
Using knitting needles size 4 mm and 2 strands of Col 1, cast on 33 stitches (sts). Work back and forth on the needle. Row 1: Slip the first st knitwise, knit (k) to end = right side. Row 2: Slip the first st purlwise, *k3, purl (p) 1*, repeat from * to * to end of row = wrong side. Rows 3 and 5: As row 1. Rows 4 and 6: As row 2. 7th, 9th and 11th rows: Slip the first st knitwise, k to end of row. 8th, 10th and 12th rows: Slip the first st purlwise, k1, *p1, k3*, repeat from * to * a total of 7 times, p1, k2. In this way, the pattern shifts relative to the first 6 rows. Repeat the 12 pattern rows 6 times in all.
Edge stitch: Slip the first st in every row, knitwise and purlwise alternately. In each row, knit the second and third sts together (k2 tog) and then work the pattern to the end of the row. Continue working the pattern and decrease (dec) until 2 sts remain. Break off the yarn and pull the tail through the last 2 sts. Pull tight.
Now work an i-cord along the diagonal, overlapping flap. How to do it: Using double-pointed knitting needles size 4 mm and 1 strand of Col 2, cast on 4 sts. Row 1: k4, then slide all 4 sts to the opposite end of the needle (i.e. do not turn the work). Pull the yarn tight to the back of the work. Row 2: k3, pick up 1 stitch loop on the long side of the diagonal flap and k these 2 sts tog with the last st on the double-pointed knitting needle. Pull the yarn to the back of the work and tighten. Repeat this row. Take care not to work the i-cord too tightly. Tip: Work row 1 after every 4th or 6th row, i.e. without picking up a stitch.
Now work an i-cord for the ties and along the top edge of the bag: Using double-pointed knitting needles size 4 mm and 1 strand of Col 2, cast on 4 sts. Slide all the sts to the opposite end of the needle (i.e. do not turn the work). Bring the yarn to the back of the work. k4, pull the yarn taut after the second st. Repeat this until the i-cord measures 60 cm. Continue along the straight edge of the bag (the cast-on edge) as described in step 3. When all sts along the edge are knitted together with the i-cord, work an additional 60 cm for tie as described in step 4.
Sew the sides of the bag together. Sew a magnetic clasp to the lower tip of the flap and at the corresponding lower corner of the bag. Attach a metal stopper to both ties. Sew the ties together to prevent the stopper from sliding over the stitching. Adjust your bag to fit. You can wear it either around your waist or over your shoulder.
