Knitted Christmas bonbons
"How adorable," Anna exclaims at the sight of Clara's homemade Christmas candies. "And these can even last for years and years," Clara chuckles.
The bonbons are knitted in cotton yarn with stripes that have a second strand of embroidery thread. Knit in stripes as you wish. Finally, using embroidery thread, crochet a scalloped edge at each end of the sweets.
Using 3 double-pointed knitting needles size 3 mm, cast on 18 stitches (sts) (= 6 sts on each knitting needle). Work 7 rounds (rds): Knit (k) to end of rd. Next rd: Work *k1, knit 2 together (k2tog)*, repeat from * to * 6 times = 12 sts remaining (4 sts on each of 3 needles). Now work 9 rds: k to end of rd. Next rd: Increase 6 sts as follows: *k1, k1 through the back loop between sts (k1 tbl)), repeat from * to * 3 times, k2, k1 tbl, k1 = 18 sts in all. Work 7 rds: k to end of rd. Cast off.
Using embroidery thread and crochet hook size 3 mm, make a scalloped edge at each end of the bonbon ‘tube’: Start the rd anywhere you like. Work *1 double crochet, 3 chain stitches*, repeat from * to * to end of rd. Repeat at the opposite end. Weave in ends. Make a loop to hang and tie a bow at one end of the bonbon. Fill the bonbon with a suitable amount of stuffing. Tie a bow at the other end of the bonbon. Make bonbons in different colours.
