Knitted miniature elf clothes
Do not let your Christmas guest catch a cold. With hand-knitted clothes for the elf, the imagination can run wild, and perhaps the little ones can even create their own little Christmas elf to bring hygge – or mischief – during the festive season.
Work in the round, top down, as follows: Using double-pointed knitting needles size 3 mm and Col 1, cast on 18 stitches (sts). Rounds (rds) 1 and 2: Work knit (k) 1, purl (p) 1 rib in the rd. Rd 3: *k2, insert the knitting needle through the loop between the sts from the back (M1R)*, repeat from * to * to end of rd = 27 sts. Rds 4 and 5: k to end of rd. Rd 6: *k3, M1R*, repeat from * to * to end of rd = 36 sts. Rds 7 and 8: k to end of rd. Rd 9: *k4, M1R*, repeat from * to * to end of rd = 45 sts. Rds 10 and 11: k to end of rd. Rd 12: *k5, M1R*, repeat from * to * to end of rd = 54 sts. Rds 13 and 14: k to end of rd. Leave 12 sts for each sleeve on the needle. Continue working over 30 sts for the body as follows: Work 6 rds: k to end of rd. Work 2 rds in k1,p1 rib. Cast off. Sleeves: Work 5 rds: k to end of rd. Switch to Col 2 and work 1 rd: k to end of rd. Switch to Col 1 and work 1 rd: k to end of rd BUT knit 1st and 2nd sts and 7th and 8th sts together (k2 tog). Work 2 rds in k1,p1 rib. Cast off. Work the second sleeve in the same way.
Follow the pattern for the elf sweater, except for the body. Elf dress skirt: Using Col 1, work in the rd. At each underarm, insert the knitting needle through the loop between the sts from the back (M1R) in alternate rds until there are 40 sts in the rd (i.e. 10 rds). To finish, work 2 rds of k1,p1 rib. Cast off.
Work in the round, top down, as follows: Using 4 double-pointed knitting needles size 3 mm and Col 2, cast on 28 sts (7 sts on each needle). Rds 1 and 2: Work k1,p1 rib. Rds 3-10: k to end. Legs: Divide sts into 2 x 14 sts and work each leg separately. Now work 8 rds: k to end of rd. Switch to Col 1 and work 1 rd: k to end of rd. Switch to Col 2 and work 1 rd: k to end of rd. To finish, work 2 rds of k1,p1 rib. Cast off.
Work from the bottom up as follows: Using 3 double-pointed knitting needles size 3 mm and Col 1, cast on 18 sts (6 sts on each needle). Rds 1 and 2: Work k1,p1 rib. Rd 3: Switch to Col 2: k to end of rd. Rds 4-10: Switch to Col 1: k to end of rd. Now decrease as follows: In every 3rd rd, knit the first 2 sts tog. Continue until 1 st remains on each needle. Last 2 rds: k to end of rd. Break off yarn and pull the yarn tail through the remaining 3 sts. Make a small tassel and sew it onto the hat. Weave in ends. Embroider a Christmas tree with snow on the elf sweater/dress. See chart. Sew a silk ribbon hanging onto each garment.
