Knitted vest in threefold beadwork

As always, the sisters are working on new knitting projects, and this warm vest in lively colours is on the list of creative winter pursuits. “Knitting is like showing a special kind of care,” Anna says.

1

The sisters wish to draw your attention to the fact that the vest is knitted throughout with 1 strand of Anna and Clara’s wool bamboo yarn and 1 strand of Anna and Clara’s mohair nylon yarn. You work with the wool bamboo yarn throughout, whereas the colour of the strand of mohair nylon yarn changes to make stripes. If you wish, you could use mohair yarn remnants and change colour as you wish. Or you can, of course, just follow the stripe pattern. The vest is knitted in triple moss stitch except for the rib, which is knitted in twisted rib (see pattern description above).

2

Using circular knitting needle size 8.0 mm and 2 strands (1 strand of wool bamboo yarn, Col 1, and 1 strand of mohair nylon yarn, Col 2, cast on 46 (52) 58 stitches (sts). Work twisted rib back and forth. Work 12 (14) 16 cm rib. Leave sts on the needle.

3

Using circular knitting needle size 8.0 mm, cast on 46 (52) 58 sts: Work as described for back until the rib measures 8 (10) 12 cm. Note that the front is shorter than the back.

4

Now continue working in the round across the front and back = 92 (104) 116 sts in triple moss stitch (see pattern description above). Set a stitch marker (ssm) over the first and last sts of the front.

5

Work 3 (6) 9 rounds (rds) with Col 1 and Col 2. Switch to Col 3 and work 3 rds. Switch to Col 4 and work 9 rds. Switch to Col 2 and work 3 (3) 6 rds. Switch to Col 6 and work 3 rds. Switch to Col 3 and work 3 rds. Switch to Col 2 and work 3 (6) 9 rds. Switch to Col 5 and work 3 rds. Switch to Col 2 and work 3 rds.

6

Switch to Col 6 and work 3 rows (rs). In these rs, cast off the last 3 (3) 4 sts on back (before sm) and the first 3 (3) 4 sts after sm on front on both the left and right side of the vest. Leave the front sts on the needle and continue working back and forth across the back = 40 (46) 52 sts. These are 3 x pattern rs. At the same time, decrease (dec) 1 st at each armhole in alternate rs, 3 times in all. Change to Col 2 and work 3 (3) 6 rs. Now there are 34 (40) 46 sts on the back.

7

Switch to Col 4 and work 6 rs. Switch to Col 3 and work 3 rs. Switch to Col 2 and work 6 (6) 9 rs. Switch to Col 5 and work 3 rs. Switch to Col 2 and work 3 (3) 6 rs. Switch to Col 6 and work 3 rs. Switch to Col 2 and, at the same time, cast off the centre 8 (12) 14 sts. Work each shoulder separately. Cast off 1 st at the neck edge twice in alternate rs = a total of 6 rs using Col 2. Cast off the remaining (rem) 12 (13) 15 sts at shoulder. Work the other shoulder to match.

8

Using Col 6, continue working with the same colours and pattern as for the back until you reach the colour change from Col 3 to Col 2. Work 3 rs, cast off the centre 6 (10) 12 sts at the neckline and work each side of the front separately. Leave rem sts on the needle.

9

Continue working with Col 2. Work 3 (3) 6 rs and cast off 1 st at the neck edge in alternate rs, twice.

10

Switch to Col 5 and work 3 rs. Switch to Col 2 and work 3 (3) 6 rs. Switch to Col 6 and work 3 rs. Switch to Col 2 and work 6 rs. Cast off 12 (13) 15 sts at shoulder. Work the other side of the front, but reverse the shaping.

11

Sew shoulder seams.

12

Pick up approx. 50 (54) 60 sts around the neck edge. Work 3 cm of twisted rib. Cast off loosely.

13

Pick up approx. 46 (46) 52 sts in the right and left armholes, respectively, and work 3 cm of twisted rib. Cast off loosely. Weave in ends.
