Knittet vest with ruffles
Clara has knitted a few versions of vests at this point, as she finds such vests both practical and flattering. This version with light ruffles by the armholes will be another treasured addition to the collection. Download the pattern and immerse yourself in knitting.
The sisters wish to point out that the tank top is knitted in one piece in stocking stitch combined with a mock rib pattern (see below). Work as shown in the chart.
Start at bottom edge of back. Using straight knitting needles size 6 mm, cast on 60 (64) 68 stitches (sts). Work back and forth. Work 22 rows (r) in the mock rib pattern as follows: 1. Row 1 (Wrong side (WS)): *knit (k)1, purl (p)1*, repeat from * to * until end of r (the pattern appears on the wrong side. See chart). 2. Row 2 (Right side (RS)): k to end. (Right side rows are NOT shown in the chart). Work the back as shown in the chart.
RS: k18 (20) 22, cast off 23 sts, k19 (21) 23. Leave the 18 (20) 22 sts on the left-hand side on the needle. Right shoulder: Work 16 rs (see chart). At the end of the next WS r, cast on 2 sts at the neck edge. Work 1 r of garter stitch (k to end). At the end of the next WS r, cast on 2 sts at the neck edge. Work 1 r of garter stitch (k to end). At the end of the next WS r, cast on 15 sts. Leave these sts on the needle.
Work the second shoulder with 2 x 2 sts increases at the neck edge. Now follow the chart. Work across all 60 (64) 68 sts (front). Cast off all sts at the end of the chart.
Measure 22 cm from the lower edge of the tank top back. This is where you begin to pick up sts for the ruffle. Using straight knitting needles size 6 mm and 2 strands of Anna and Clara's mohair nylon yarn, pick up 134 sts from the RS along the side. Make sure that you stop picking up stitches 22 cm from the lower edge of the tank top front. 1. Next row (WS): k2, p until last 2 sts, k2. 2. Next row (RS): *k8, yarn over needle (yon), k1 (mark this stitch with a stitch marker), yon*, repeat from * to * until last 8 sts, k8.
Repeat these rs 5 times = 10 rows. NB: the stitch count increases between each inc in every RS row. When you have worked 10 rs, there are 274 sts on the needle. Now work 1 WS r: k to end. Next row (RS): Cast off knitwise. Work the other shoulder ruffle to match.
Using circular knitting needle size 6 mm and 2 strands of Anna and Clara's mohair nylon yarn, pick up 70 sts along the neck edge. Work 6 cm broken rib as follows: 1. Work in the round (rd): First rd: k to end of rd. 2. Next rd: *k1, p1*, repeat from * to * to end of rd. Cast off loosely. Fold edge in half and sew firmly to the inside of the neck edge. Weave in ends.
Sew the sides of the tank top together as follows: Sew front and back together at the sides from 22 cm from the lower edge to the start of the ruffle. Continue to sew for a further 10 cm between the ruffles or until the armhole edge is the desired length. The lower 10 cm of the lower ruffle is sewn firmly to the top while the remainder follows the armhole edge.
