Kumihimo-inspired bracelet
The sisters find joy in expanding their creative skills, which is why they have turned to the Japanese art of Kumihimo. Follow the sisters' guide and make your own knotted bracelet that surely will attract attention.
Begin by cutting 6 pieces of embroidery thread or cotton yarn in your desired colours to a length of approx. 1 metre.
Next, cut a piece of yarn about 30 cm long to act as a 'drawstring'.
Place the long pieces of string on top of each other, and fold them in half. Create a loop with the drawstring, and tie it around the middle of the long strings, as shown in the video.
Pull the drawstring through the center of the knotting disc, and distribute the 12 pieces of string in pairs around the disc by securing them in the grooves. The 6 'pairs' should be secured next to each other. "If you do not have a knotting disc, you can make one yourself out of cardboard," Anna suggests.
Begin by pulling the back string of a pair in front of the pair that lies directly opposite, so that there are now three strings next to each other. Then, move the back one of these three strings over to the opposite side, and fasten this string in front of the remaining string. Now, there are again two pairs, both of which have moved one step to the right on the knotting disc.
Repeat step 5 with the pair of strings to the right of the pair you have already moved, so you continuously move clockwise. Continue this rhythm and keep pulling on the drawstring.
Once you have achieved the desired length of the bracelet, remove all the strings, and cut off the remaining strings. Tie a knot as close to the end of the bracelet as possible to prevent it from unravelling.
You can choose to attach a clasp from a jewelry kit, as shown in the video, or you can use the creation as a keychain.
