Linocut paper ornament

A personalised paper ornament looks wonderful among vintage glass baubles and shimmering lights, the sisters believe. "That way, one can remember the creative traditions of Christmas year after year," Anna smiles.

1

Print the template, and trace over all the lines of the template with a pencil.

2

Now place the drawn side face down on your linoleum block, and press on top of the paper so that the pencil design is transferred onto the linoleum block.

3

Then cut out your linocut with the linocut carving knife as you like.

4

Roll paint in your desired colour onto the linoleum block, and place a piece of cardboard in a contrasting colour on top of the paint. Press lightly so that the design transfers to the cardboard, then carefully remove the card stock. Allow to dry.

5

Now adorn the card stock with gold leaf, which is applied with glue, or draw fine decorations with silver or gold markers.

6

Now cut out the entire print with scissors. With a precision knife, neatly cut out the wings, along with the lines marked with scissors on the template. "Mind your fingers," Clara notes.

7

Place the flat side of your bone folder against the sides of the print, and use the back of the linoleum knife to emboss the print’s fold. This method will make your crease sharper when you need to fold the edges to be glued. Do this on all edges of the linoleum print.

8

Assemble your linocut print with a glue gun, and attach a string to the top of the ornament so it can be hung in your home or on the Christmas tree.
