Macramé-inspired wall decoration

Textiles create warmth and hygge in the home. "And personality is the icing on the cake," notes Anna, who likes to fill the home with homemade wall decorations for a unique expression. Follow her lead with this simple DIY guide.

1

Start by aligning two ropes so they are even in length.

2

Next, form a loop with embroidery thread or cotton yarn. In the video, Anna has chosen to alternate between the two types of yarn to achieve an intriguing expression. Place the yarn loop on top of the ropes and hold it in place while you wind the yarn around the ropes to secure the loop.

3

When you want to stop, cut the yarn free from the yarn ball, and lead the end through the loop. Pull the opposite end, so the loop is drawn under the yarn. Now, both yarn ends are secured under the tight yarn twists, allowing the loose ends to be trimmed.

4

Continue the process with yarn in various types and colours until you achieve the desired result. However, leave both ends of the ropes free, so they can be combed with a wide-toothed comb at the end to loosen the threads for a refined appearance.

5

Finish the project by trimming the ends of the ropes to an even edge, and hang your wall decoration in the desired shape.
