Make a fabric Christmas wreath

Cut four equal rectangular pieces of patchwork fabric, approximately 11 x 55 cm. Join the pieces in pairs along the short edges and sew them together with a seam allowance of approximately 1 cm. You will now have two long pieces of fabric.

Press the seam allowances open with an iron so that they lie flat on either side of the seams.

Place the two long pieces of fabric right sides together and sew along both long edges with a seam allowance of approximately 1 cm. When sewing across the joins from step 1, make sure the seam allowances remain pressed open so that the fabric lies as flat as possible.

Turn the long fabric tube right side out. Then fold approximately 1.5 cm of each end inwards and stitch around the openings approximately 1 cm from the edge to create a neat finish.

Sew a narrow channel along the centre of the entire fabric tube. The channel should be approximately 0.5 cm wide. If needed, mark the centre of the fabric or use the markings on your sewing machine as a guide to keep the stitching even all the way along.

Cut through the metal ring at the join using wire cutters. Feed one end of the ring through the narrow channel in the fabric tube, gradually gathering the fabric onto the ring. Distribute the fabric as you go to create soft folds all the way around the wreath.

Once all the fabric has been threaded onto the metal ring, bring the two ends of the ring back together. Secure them with decorative tape to hold the ring together. Alternatively, you can glue the ends together.

Arrange the fabric evenly around the ring, bringing the ends of the fabric together at the join. Finally, tie a large ribbon bow around the join to conceal it. Your wreath is now ready to hang and bring a touch of Christmas cheer to your home.
