Make your own beaded coaster

When Anna and Clara invite their loved ones for dinner, they make a virtue of setting a beautiful table. The icing on the cake is the cute beaded coaster, which the sisters have crafted themselves. As Anna says: "A colourful and cosy addition to the table." Clara adds: "Which also serves a practical purpose."

1

Start by cutting four pieces of wire. Each piece should be approximately 40 cm long.

2

Place all four pieces together and tie a knot in the centre. Tighten the knot as much as possible without breaking the wire.

3

The knot now has eight strands, like a little spider with eight legs.

4

Thread white beads onto all the strands as shown in the video, and tie simple knots at the ends to prevent the beads from falling off. Make sure to add an even number of beads (between 25 and 30) to each strand.

5

Take the roll of wire and pull out a piece. Thread plenty of white beads onto the wire, and then secure the wire to the middle.

6

Attach one or two white beads between two strands, and twist the wire around the strand. Continue this process all the way around. With each round, increase the number of beads. Remember to tighten the twists as much as possible without breaking the wire.

7

When you have achieved the desired size of the white centre on the orange, cut the wire from the roll to a good length – approximately 2 m. Place the excess white beads back in the bowl. Now, switch to the orange beads.

8

Continue with orange beads until the orange measures at least 6 cm in diameter. Anna kindly reminds you that you can make it exactly as large as you wish.

9

When the desired size is achieved, switch back to white beads. Make two rounds with the white beads.

10

Switch back to orange beads. Untie the loose knots on the strands, remove any excess white beads, and add two orange beads per strand instead. Tie the loose knot again.

11

Now, the peel of the orange, which consists of two rounds with orange beads, is to be made. Complete the first row in the same way as previously.

12

The final round of beads marks the ending. When you reach a strand, trim it slightly and twist it around the long piece of wire with beads on it, so that the following beads can slide onto both wires.

13

Twist the final strand around itself and tuck it down through its own beads towards the centre. Trim the wire. Your coaster is now complete and ready to decorate any table.
