Nest box of reused tin
The sisters are fond of many types of visits in their garden. they particularly love when the little migratory birds pass by. For this reason, Anna has made a little nest box out of an old tin. "How lovely to hear birds chirping in the garden, dear Anna," Clara smiles.
For the nest box, you will need a large tin with a lid. The inside measurements must be at least 10 x 10 cm. First, mark a cross where you want to make the hole on the side of the tin with a marker and ruler. This way, you will cut about the same length to all sides of the cross. Then, make a little mark for a drain hole in the bottom. Finally, mark three or four holes by the top edge to bring yarn through so the nest box can hang.
Cut the top holes and the drain hole in the bottom with a tool knife. As a tool knife, use an old knife that can be worn and that you do not use in the kitchen. Cut a hole on the side where you have marked the cross, and use your pliers to expand the hole. Bend the edges inwards as flatly as possible towards the side of the tin to avoid risking that the birds will cut themselves on the sharp edges.
Paint the nest box and lid in your desired colour with acrylic paint.
When the nest box has dried, you can start gluing macramé yarn around the opening from the inside and outwards using a glue gun. Continue until you have covered the sharp edges. Be very careful to cover alle sharp edges and secure the macramé yarn properly with glue to avoid risking birds will cut themselves.
Use a large needle to bring macramé yarn through the holes at the top for hanging. Secure the yarn by finishing off with a few knots.
Now, glue along the top of the nest box and attach the lid.
Add more glue to the outside of the top of the nest box and add a few handfulls of dried road side sticks so you can finally put together a little roof. Finish at the top by tying a piece of macramé yarn around the sticks. Make a bow, if you like. Finally, you can trim the sticks a bit with scissors.
