Paper ornament

With equal parts ingenuity, patience, and beautiful paper, Anna has folded the finest paper ornament to be hung in the sisters' large living room window.

1

Start by folding the first piece of paper diagonally. Unfold it again.

2

Fold the paper diagonally in the opposite direction, and then unfold it again. The folds should now form a cross on the paper.

3

Now fold in one of the corners so that the point meets the centre of the paper.

4

Turn the paper over, and fold the next corner towards the centre of the paper.

5

Turn the paper over once more, and fold the third corner - the one opposite the first corner - towards the centre of the paper. Now your paper resembles a house.

6

Now fold the bottom corner of the house's square part diagonally up towards the upper opposite corner of the square part. Now fold what used to be the house's "roof" over the rest and towards the centre of the paper. The paper now forms a triangle.

7

Make a small crease in the part of the triangle that does not have an overlapping piece of paper. Create the crease by folding the bottom corner of the triangle up towards the triangle's highest point and then unfold it again, so that the triangle folds over itself, so to speak.

8

Repeat steps 1–7 with three additional pieces of paper, so you have a total of four triangles of this type.

9

The remaining four pieces of paper are used to create a nearly identical triangle, but with a slight variation. Begin by following steps 1-5, which also apply to the new type of triangle.

10

When your paper resembles a house, you should first turn the house over so that only one fold is visible, as shown in the video. Then follow steps 6 and 7 as with the first type of triangle.

11

Now you have a total of eight folded triangles, four of each type. These now need to be assembled – remember to alternate between type 1 and type 2. The part of the triangle that is folded over itself should first be inserted into the next triangle on the side that is not folded over itself. Insert the first triangle into the left bottom edge of the next triangle, where there is a small pocket.

12

Repeat until all triangles are assembled. Open the triangles, as shown in the video, and staple the joints together using a stapler.

13

Now thread a needle with a thread and a bead, and sew a bead securely in the centre of the paper ornament on each side as a decorative detail. Likewise, attach a hanging cord to one of the ornament's points.

14

Now your personal paper ornament is ready to adorn your Christmas home or tree, year after year.
