Sew a patchwork bed snake

Give the dear little ones the soft company of a snake soft toy, which can also be used as a bed snake. "This is my new favourite," the nephew exclaims when he sees Anna's latest patchwork project made from fabric scraps from the stash.

1

Choose fabric in different colours and patterns in your taste. In the video, Anna has chosen fabric in eight different colours and patterns in total. "Feel free to use fabric scraps or discarded clothes in woven fabric which you might already have in a closet at home," Anna suggests.

2

Choose how wide you want the patchwork elements on the snake to be. In the video, the width of the narrowest side of a piece of patchwork fabric (45 cm) is torn into lengths of 5, 10, and 20 cm respectively. Thus, the snake's patchwork pattern gets varying widths and colours. Save one 5 cm fabric strip for the snake's tongue. "If you like, you can place all the fabric strips in front of you in the desired pattern so you can imagine the result before you start sewing," Anna suggests.

3

Sew the fabric strips together, so you end up having a long rectangle. Sew the rectangle together right sides facing each other on each side, so you end up having a long tube shape with a hole in the middle, where you can later add the stuffing.

4

Choose at which end the snake's tail tip should be. Sew from the fold where the rectangle is doubled and lead the stitching diagonally out to the seam. Cut off the remaining fabric.

5

Now, use your 5 cm strip to make the snake's tongue. Fold the strip, and then cut the length in half. Now, sew along the sides of the square and create a forked tongue with the sewing machine. Make notches and cut down into the seam allowance. Optionally, you can iron it afterwards.

6

Lay the tube-shaped snake flat so the seam aligns with the underside of the snake. Place the tongue in the middle of the open end between the two layers of fabric. Now sew a rounded end for the snake's head, by which you sew the tongue and the open end together in one seam.

7

Turn the snake right side out and fill it with stuffing. Sew the opening in the middle by hand to close the fabric.

8

If you like, you can embroider small nostrils and eyes on the snake with embroidery thread. "Now the snake is ready to decorate and add cosiness to the dear little one's room," Anna smiles.
