Sew fabric ornaments for Easter and springtime
“A lot can be made with needle and thread,” Anna believes. She has made a template with several Easter and spring motifs, so your home can be adorned with quirky decorations as well.
Print the template and cut out your desired motif. This video and guide are focused on the clover, but there are many different motifs in the template. These are shown in the video at the end.
Secure the template of the clover onto a piece of patchwork fabric and cut along the sides of the template.
Thread your needle with embroidery thread and start sewing random stitches from the middle of the clover’s right side and move along the stem. The more random stiches you sew, the quirkier the ornament will appear. Just make sure that the stitches are especially tight at the stem as the cotton batting must be stuffed tightly here.
When you reach approximately the same spot on the clover from the opposite side and have sewn the entire stem, you can carefully press the batting into the stem. You can use your closed, small scissors to press the cotton batting in. Press more batting into the rest as you sew. The head of the clover should not be as tightly stuffed.
When you have reached the middle of the clover’s top, you can – while you are still sewing with the embroidery thread – make a noose for hanging the ornament. You can also make this at the very end. Simple make a large noose as if to make a stitch and secure this with a couple of knots. You can continue to sew your ornament as usual and close it with a couple of stitches.
Sew from the middle out to the middle of each side, so it looks like the petals are divided.
Change to a lighter embroidery thread and sew wide stitches on the petals.
Cut two short, thin ribbons. Here we have used taffeta ribbon. Secure the ribbon to the middle of the clover with embroidery thread. Tie the ribbon into a bow. Repeat on the other side and cut off the long ends of the ribbon. Now the clover is finished and ready to bring spring to the home.
