Yarn and sewing

Sew yarn patterns on old pillow cases

Get out your sewing machine and box of yarn scraps, and bring a sense of newness in to your home. Superwash wool or yarn of a similar thickness is great for this project.

1

Rip all the side seams of a pillow case open except from the side with the zip fastener.

2

Place the two sides of the pillow case flat wrong side up, and perhaps pin the open zip fastener together with needles. This makes it easier to control the fabric as you sew.

3

Thread the sewing machine as usual. Attach a little paper pipe or straw of approx. 5 cm by the upper thread with tape, right where the upper thread is brought down to the needle.

4

Use a needle or similar item to bring the yarn through the paper pipe from above and down to the presser foot as if it was the upper thread. Loosen a little yarn from the ball and place it besides the sewing machine.

5

Now, sew a pattern with the yarn on the right side of the pillow case. If the presser foot does not automatically seek the yarn, you must, without tucking too much at the yarn, use one hand to place the yarn under the upper thread while you sew. This way, the upper and lower thread hits approx. in the middle of the yarn.

6

When you have finished sewing the pattern, sew together the pillow case again and remove the pins from the zip fastener. Then flip the pillow case right side out, fill it with stuffing and close.
