Stool with paper yarn seat

"What a wonderful surprise!" Clara exclaims as she unwraps the gift from Anna. Anna has woven a new seat for Clara's favourite footstool. Create wonderful renewal with Anna's steps to weave a seat for your own stool.

1

Tie the yarn to one of the sides on the frame of your stool as shown in the video. Secure the yarn by crossing it over itself as you lead the yarn around the wood. Lead the end of the yarn through the spaces of the crossed over yarn.

2

Now, you must first wind the yarn all the way around the frame of the stool until the seat is covered. The first time you lead the yarn to the opposite side, the yarn must go a whole round around the wood before it is led back.

3

From here, it is only every fifth time that the yarn has to go all the way around the wood on the side in question. This applies to both sides of the stool frame.

4

When you finish the last section, cut the yarn so you have about 5-7 cm yarn left. Lead this through some rows of yarn on the backside of the stool and tighten, so the yarn is firmly secured.

5

Now it is time to weave a check pattern across the yarn you have just fastened. You can opt to use a different colour of yarn, like Anna does in the video.

6

Place the two flat sticks/paint stirrers between every other section, which consist of five yarn threads, so they are separated from each other on both the front and back.

7

Wind the yarn 7-8 times around the long side of the flat stick with notches that you will weave with, as shown in the video.

8

Now you can weave the yarn through the separated sections and tighten. Turn the stool upside down and repeat.

9

Before you continue, the flat sticks which separate the sections should be removed and placed again in the same way. This time, the sections which were under the sticks should now be on top of the sticks.

10

Repeat step 8 again and again, where you weave until the yarn covers the stool in the other direction and you now have weaved the check patterns on the entire seat. When you run out of yarn, you can simply tie on a new piece in continuation of the previous one. Make sure to do this on the back of the stool so that the knots are not visible.

11

When there is not too much space left, you remove the yarn from the weaving stick and weave manually using tweezers to catch the yarn in between the sections.

12

Secure the yarn using the same method as in step 4. Now, the stool is ready to be displayed in your home.
