Suitcase memo game
By using recycled cardboard, a bit of paint, and a suitcase, you can create a play suitcase that can easily be brought along on travels, picnics, or beach trips. "I remembered correctly!" the nephew exclaims enthusiastically with two orange carrots in his hand, adding: "Better luck next time, aunt Clara," and Clara smiles.
Begin by painting the inside of your suitcase with acrylic paint. Here, the sisters have chosen blue for the lid, like the sky, and brown for the bottom, like the ground.
Sketch 40 carrots on cardboard and cut them out. Also sketch 2 clouds and 2 point discs, with a small hole in the middle and a notch in the side, on cardboard and cut them out as shown in the video.
Paint the carrots in 10 different colours, 4 of each. Two carrot templates are needed to make one carrot. Also, paint the clouds and the point disc. Once the painting on the carrots is dry, you can also draw small lines with a marker to mimic the texture of a carrot.
Next, wrap green yarn around a ruler a handful of times, and cut at the top as shown in the video to make a carrot top.
Assemble the carrots by gluing a carrot top between two carrots of the same colour and glue it all together.
Make the scoreboards by placing the point disc on top of the cloud-shaped piece of cardboard and pinning it in the centre with a drawing pin. Turn the point disc and write the numbers 1-10 on the cloud so you can count the points. Then glue the two scoreboards to the inside of the suitcase lid.
Now it is time to make the carrot field. Start by outlining the size of the suitcase on a piece of cardboard and cut out this piece of cardboard. Then measure the height of the carrots and cut a long piece of cardboard slightly higher than the carrots. This cardboard piece is to form the base for the carrot field.
Mark 20 oblong holes on the large piece of cardboard where the carrots will come up, and cut out the holes with a precision knife. Then paint the carrot field with brown acrylic paint.
Finally, your play suitcase can be assembled. Place the long pieces of cardboard along the bottom of the suitcase and then place the carrot field on top. Now the carrots can be 'planted' in the holes so that only the green tops are visible, and the little ones can try to collect carrots in pairs of the same colour. Who has the best memory?
