Tray with tiles
The sisters make a virtue out of serving beautifully, so they are quite excited about adding even more beauty to the table with new ideas. "It is especially lovely to renew an old tray so it will come in use again," Anna says.
Paint your tray if you wish to.
If you are using mosaic tiles which are conncected and in one piece, cut these to fit into the tray. Here, 3 x 3 cm tiles are used.
Mix 500 g. tile glue with 1.5 dl of water. Whisk this together.
Spread the mass in a layer of approx 0.5 cm in the bottom of your tray. First with a putty knife and then with a notched trowel to make grooves in the mass.
Place your tiles on top and let it dry for 1-2 days.
Add masking tape on the inside of the excess edge of the tray, where there are no tiles, so the edges are protected from the joint compound.
Mix 500 g. joint compound with 1 dl of water. Whisk this together.
Spread the mass diagonally in the empty cracks between the tiles with a rubber putty knife or a plastic palette knife and a rubber brush. Remove as much of the excess joint compound as possible, when all the cracks are filled.
Let this dry for 15-45 minutes. Now, clean the surface with a moist sponge multiple times. Twist the sponge in clean water again and again until the tiles are completely clean. You can finish by wiping the tiles carefully with a wrung out cloth.
Remove the masking tape. The tray is ready for use.
