Tuft a pretty throw pillowcase
Anna can easily spend many, many hours in the world of tufting. "One can become completely immersed in yarn, colours, and patterns," Anna exclaims delightedly. Learn to do the popular craft with Anna's guide for a pretty throw pillowcase.
Draw your pattern on paper or pattern paper and cut out the shape.
Secure the pattern on the cotton canvas and transfer the pattern onto here. Now, select the colours of yarn, which you wish to use.
Fasten the cotton canvas in an embroidery frame and thread the tufting needle with the selected yarn. Anna recommends that you sit at a lower seating height, such as an armchair or in a sofa, with the embroidery frame in your lap. Start by poking the tufting needle through the cotton canvas. It's easiest to work in rows with the yarn while holding on to the backside so you get longer nooses which will not jump out.
Tuft as you wish to in just the colours and combinations which you would like. Here, Anna uses both a mix of wool, bamboo, and cotton yarn along with pure cotton and pure wool. Each time you wish to switch yarn, you simply need to thread the needle again. Let the ends stick out of the back side as short ends.
If you make a mistake or change your mind about a colour or pattern, you can simply draw directly on the cotton canvas and pull the yarn out of its holes.
When the front of the pillowcase is finished, it is time to spread glue onto the backside. Make sure to add a lot of glue to the parts with tufted yarn.
Leave it to dry overnight and do check that it is completely dry before proceeding. The yarn on the front should be difficult to pull out. It can make sense to test this in an area where the tufting is especially dense. If pulling out the yarn nooses is easy, it means that you should add more glue on the backside. Now, cut and comb the front with scissors as shown in the video. Shape the edges so the colours of the yarns are visibly divided.
Now, sew a piece of patchwork fabric or similar onto three sides of the pillowcase and stuff it with a pillow. Sew the remaining side together either using a sewing machine or by hand. Let the pillowcase be a decorative addition in your home.
