Upcycle a shirt with bead buttons

"In a simple and effortless way, your favourite shirt gets a new lease of life with elegant bead buttons," Anna says. With this guide, you can easily upcycle shirts and other garments that need updating.

1

Start by removing the first old button from the shirt. Clara suggests not removing all the buttons at once, as she says, "It is easier to see exactly where the new button should be when you have just removed the old one."

2

Cut a piece of sewing thread and fold it in half. Now thread the two ends through the sewing needle.

3

Before you start: Most shirts have a double layer on the placket where the buttons are to be sewn. Simply sew through the top layer, thereby avoiding visible stitches on the back. See how in the video.

4

Begin by sewing from the front where the old button was positioned. Pull the needle through the loop at the end of the thread, as shown in the video. That way, you avoid having to make a knot at the end.

5

Thread the needle through the eye at the back of the button, and attach it to the shirt. Repeat a few times, and finish by securing the thread.

6

Repeat the process until all buttons are sewn in.

7

Now your upcycled shirt is ready to use with a fresh look.
