Weaved work of art from yarn scraps
Anna and Clara rarely throw anything away as even the tiniest of scraps often can be used for something quite wonderful. This work of art, for instance, is made of yarn and ribbon scraps. You can also use fabric strips or any other kind of scraps you have.
Paint the wooden beads in a colour of your liking, and let them dry.
Take out the inner wooden frame of the embroidery hoop and tie the cotton string onto it without cutting the string from the spool.
Drag the string and spool straight down to the middle of the frame. Bring the string through the frame, around it from behind, back trhough the frame and around it from the back on top again approx. 1 cm from the start knot. Continue throughout the frame with approx. 1 cm distance between the string's placements on the frame. It is important to keep the string tight. Before finishing the threading of the frame, you can make sure to push the sections into place so they are evenly placed around the frame.
Finish threading the frame by gathering all sections in the middle with the string on the spool. Bring the string to the frame again and secure it with a knot.
Mount the threaded inner frame in the outer frame and tighten it.
You are now ready to weave in the frame. Pick up a piece of yarn. It is up to you how long. The longer the piece of yarn, the more rounds you can weave with it on the frame. However, you can always continue with the same colour yarn by finishing a round and starting again with a new piece of the same kind. Bring the piece of yarn around a section of two string pieces that are on top of each other. Now, gather the yarn ends and needle both ends, so the weaving yarn is now secured around a section. Now, weave by bringing the yarn on the needle over and under the string sections. Push it into place as you go and tighten.
When you want to change to another colour or type of yarn or ribbon, make sure the current piece of yarn is finished on the back of the work. Here, you secure the yarn by bringing it under the yarn on the back. Tie a knot and cut off the long ends of yarn.
Tie the painted wooden beads on to the work wherever you please.
