Yarn Christmas tree

"A quiet afternoon is perfect for creative pursuits," Anna says as she looks in the basket of yarn scraps. "These sweet Christmas trees are also a good project to do with the dear little ones," she smiles.

Cut out a square piece of cardboard with 4 cm long sides. Cut two small indentations on each end of the cardboard around 0.5 cm from the edges.

Use a ruler to measure out a piece of yarn of 20 cm. Cut the yarn and fasten the piece to the cardboard square by placing the piece of yarn flat against the cardboard and hatching the two ends into the small indentations.

Use the ball of yarn to wrap yarn around the piece of cardboard. Anna usually wraps it around 40 times before cutting it off. Now, you can use the first piece of yarn to secure the wrapped yarn by tying a tight double knot.

Remove the cardboard from the yarn. Keep the yarn firmly fixed by holding on to the first piece of yarn while you insert your scissors into the bottom of the wrapped yarn. Then, cut through the bottom yarn.

Cut a new, short piece of yarn and wrap it around the top of the tassel around 1 cm from the top. Tie a double knot to secure the cut yarn. You now have a lovely tassel.

Make an additional two tassels by repeating the steps above. Cut off the excess yarn from two of the tassels. Use your gluegun to glue the tassels together by turning the tassels upside down and spreading the strings to the sides. Put glue in the middle and push the top of one of the other tassels into the glue. Repeat this step, but be sure to place the tassel that still has its original string at the top, as this tassel and string will be used to hang the tree.

You now have a yarn Christmas tree you can decorate. Anna is fond of using small pom pons and a snowflake on top, but the only limit is your imagination. The decorations can be glued on with the gluegun. To finish the Christmas tree, tie the ends of the remaining first piece of yarn together, and your Christmas tree is now ready to adorn the home.
