Decorate your rice paper lamps

With simple methods and in a few steps, plain rice paper lamps can be renewed and get a completely different and playful look. Play with markers, paint, felt and paper, and get inspiration for decorating your rice paper lamp.

Organic shapes. Create a detailed pattern with lots of dots which give the lamp a new, light expression.

How to. All you need are markers in two different thicknesses to draw the pattern. Dot your way to the organic shapes over the paper of the lamp. Let 'snakes' of dots crawl around the lamp. The process is a bit time-consuming, but it also leaves space for deep immersion.

A playful line. Create a more distinct expression with black acrylic paint. "You can use just the colours that you prefer," Anna reminds.

How to. You will need a paintbrush and acrylic paint. Try to test the line on paper at first. You can also draw the lines with a light pencil before adding paint to the lamp.

Thousands of strips. With strips of regular paper, a rice paper lamp can get a completely different look.

Sculptural. The strips almost look like icicles, the nephew and nieces think.

How to. Draw triangles on the paper before you cut out the many strips. "You simply have to make… a lot," Anna smiles.

How to. When all the strips have been cut out, it is time to glue them onto the lamp with a glue gun. Start from the bottom and work your way up. Glue them on in split levels so they cover any spaces which appear.
