Quirky fabric New Year's crackers

If you ask the sisters, no New Year's Eve table setting is complete without the festive crackers. This version is made of fabric scraps and is both quirky and reuseable. "These can be used year after year," Anna says. Create a dynamic table setting with lots of crackers in different patterns and colour combinations.

Simple and easy. Make these lovely and simple New Year's crackers for the table yourself.

You will need. Fabric scraps, ribbons, cardboard, and a stapler.

A flock of candleholders

Decorate the table with a wealth of beautiful, coloured candleholders – new and old. Maybe you have inherited some or found some in a charity shop or made some new finds which will stand beautifully together in a flock on the table. You can opt to add candles in different colours which match the colour scheme for the rest of the table setting. The sisters recommend that you let the creativity flow and combine just the colours that you love.

"Recycling is especially good," Clara thinks. Use ribbon scraps left over from the gifts of Christmas Eve to add details to glasses and napkins. Anna finds that the bows add quite an elegant and exclusive feel to the table setting for New Year's Eve.

Festive glasses. Use ribbon of different colours and in different patterns for a festive look.

Napkin bows. Tie bows on your napkins instead of using napkin rings. You can choose to use different fabric napkins so each guest can get one which matches just their aesthetics.

Gift ribbon. The sisters always save gift ribbon as it can be used again and again.

Tablecloth as guest book

Set a fabric marker out on the table and let each guest contribute to the tablecloth. After the party, you can embroider the drawings and look back at parties of the past each year when you find the tablecloth. If embroidery is not something you enjoy, you can also leave the lines from the markers as they are.

When it comes to how to decorate a festive drink, the only limit is your imagination. Add colourful fruits and aesthetically pleasing ice cubes in fun shapes. "Don't hold back with adding both berries and ice cubes. On this special evening, being a little extravagant is quite alright," Anna says.
