Anna and Clara enjoy every sign of spring. While it is still too frosty to plant in the garden, the sisters have immersed themselves in the art of pre-sprouting. Do as they do and pre-sprout inside while you wait for spring and the sun to appear.
March 2022
With great ease.A small container, garden soil, and a few seeds. It is quite easy to get started with pre-sprouting, the sisters believe.
Start by pre-sprouting
Fill the container with soil to about one centimetre below the top. Press the soil until it is firm. Small seeds should be spread directly on the soil, while larger seeds should be covered with a little soil. It is a good idea to pre-sprout your plants on the windowsill or in a heated green house. This will give them an advantage and you will be able to harvest earlier. Your germinated plants can certainly be planted in May, while most flowers and vegetables can be sown directly into the garden soil as early as April.
Homemade. You can easily make small pots out of newspaper or empty toilet paper rolls.

The sisters recommend placing your pots in a bright spot and using plant markers to remember what you have sown. “You can sow your seeds several times to avoid harvesting all the lettuce at the same time. Who can eat five lettuce heads in one week?” Clara chuckles.
Water. You can use a spray bottle to water the soil with in the beginning, and make sure the soil is always slightly moist.
Plant-friendly climate.Use a bell jar, a mini green house, or a plastic bag to cover your plants with. “By doing that, you prevent the soil from drying out too easily,” Anna says.
Beautiful, green plants that announce the arrival of spring…

Repotting
When the first real leaves are sprouting, your plants are ready to be planted out. It may be necessary to replant in larger pots one or several times so that the plants have room to grow.
“The small plants should be taken out of the pots very carefully. Take extra care of the roots as they can easily dry out,” Clara recommends while making a hole in the soil of the new pot. She then places the plant in the hole and presses the soil around it so that it stands firm.
Make room.“Pre-sprouting can easily take up space,” Anna smiles. The sisters recommend that you make room for the pre-sprouted plants on your windowsill or use a bookcase for this purpose.

Once the night frost is over and your sprouts have become strong, it is time to plant them out. “Make sure to do this on a cloudy and windless day,” Clara kindly explains. “This way, the plants do not get unpleasantly surprised by the outdoor climate,” adds Anna.
